Motivation and Encouragement

Read Ephesians 2:1-10. Isn’t it amazing? We were dead in our sins, but God has made us alive. He did all of this so that you could accomplish the good works He has prepared for you. Our lives are full of purpose and meaning!

Let’s encourage each by reminding ourselves of these truths.

Context

During a Jewish feast called Pentecost, Jews from all over the world were in Jerusalem. God sent the Holy Spirit on 120 of His followers who had gathered together. Through the Spirit’s power, the 120 followers began speaking in the languages of the visitors from all over the world. Peter began preaching to a crowd about the death and resurrection of Jesus, proving He was the Messiah. As a result, 3,000 people believed and were baptized. But what came next after they believed?

Read

Read or watch Acts 2:41-47 two times as everyone listens

41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Summary

Read Matthew 16:18. The Holy Spirit led the early believers to meet together regularly for worship, prayer, fellowship, study of God’s word, loving one another and reaching out to those who did not yet know Christ. In every location of the book of Acts, people became followers of Christ and they made this same commitment to one another. This is a description of a local church!
